GROWING

There are several consistent themes, subtly and not-so subtly, present throughout my work. One of the most prominent being, "The Gardener". While I'm not quite a gardener just yet, this theme is inspired by my fascination with the way my mother (the gardener) is able to make things come to life, year after year after year.

FALL 2009

So the secret is out: I am TERRIBLE at having a blog. But this two month absence has been so full. I promise I haven't just been sleeping in and watching reality tv!

All right, well... maybe a little of that went on.

AHH: FASHION SCHOOL, RELOCATION, NEW FRIENDS AND THE OLD, NEW DESIGNS, AUTUMN ALWAYS, MUSIC, BIRTHDAY AND REMEMBERING THIS BLOG.

The decision to go back to school seemed like a good one. A natural progression of sorts, after having graduated college a couple of years ago. Independent from that --- a relocation which feels like a drastic uprooting of everything comfortable and everything I've grown to know. Each Other's Mothers has a show next week. And I turned twenty-seven during my favorite month of the year. Through all of which! I have been thinking about what to write in this fine thing. And I think it was just that.

I'm SUPER EXCITED about this coming holiday season. I am designing and creating on a daily basis, things I hope to show you sometime soon. I want to do every craft fair and jewelry party ever. BUT MOST OF ALL, I WANT TO MAKE A NEW WEBSITE.

This means I have approximately one month to learn HTML and web design. Yikes.

THE BANGLES

Upon the passing of a dear friend of mine (who happened to be a 95-year-old with a LOVE for jewelry), I was given a box of her old books. I knew I needed to create something with them because they were far too beautiful to just sit on a shelf and collect dust. For about six months, they sat in their box and everytime I walked by, I glanced at them with brain gears fully turning, until an idea finally glanced back.

I couldn't think of a better way to pay homage to her and the very things that enriched her life.

More styles to come.

WATER-FILLED VASE

This was my first ever concept piece. When I paired the brass flower and the bead-capped bead together, I thought to myself, "That kinda looks like a tall flower in a little, water-filled vase".

I figured since I gave the flower water, I needed to give it sunlight too.

I've (thankfully) grown a lot of these over the past few months.

THE SILENT BARN

It was so hot and so stuffy, which I usually can't stand, but tonight I embraced the cloud and plowed through. Not a single person I invited came (except for BD of course), because it doesn't matter to them anymore (and that's ok). But when I realized the room was packed body-to-body from the front all the way to the back, I knew we had transcended the friends-as-fans realm and that our band had become something important to people aside from ourselves.

So thank you, strangers, for singing along.
And standing in the front.
And in the back.
And for reminding me how fun this is.

MOMFEST

My band, Each Other's Mothers, decided to take a break from shows in November 2008. We needed to regroup and reassess our friendships.

What better friends/bands to return with. <3

(re)LOCATION (re)LOCATION (re)LOCATION

Nate said he gives me until August 5th till I start freaking out.
I challenge his bet: I think I give myself until August 13th.

Happy Birthday, Jason, in the key of the highest possible C. You are the best.

CELEBRITY CAT

The other night, driving up 6th Ave., I saw a man walking down the street with a cat on his head. After momentarily freaking out, I had a vague recollection of seeing this on the news a while back. So, I did what most of the kids do these days and googled it.

Apparently, this guy is known across the city. Quite honestly, I couldn't care less about him, BUT THE CAT... TWO THUMBS UP.

'57 CHEVY

This morning my radio alarm woke me up with a song by a friend of mine. In between not really knowing whether or not it was a dream, I snoozed her (which she doesn't know, sorry!), only to wake up soon after to a beautiful, sunny day.

Today friends seem to be moving all around. Through radio waves, through ocean waves, through streets and skies. All of which is comforting, knowing good ones in all different corners of the world. While other friends seem to be moving on, which is just part of it all. Summer seems to be a switchy-time. A season that (totally jinxing myself) isn't going so badly this year.

So after watching videos of kittens doing cute shit on the WWW, I embraced the breeze and decided to dust off my old remote control car. Actually, I didn't dust it off at all, in fact, the layer of dust remained about 1/4" thick, but you know what I mean.

Couldn't believe it still worked.
Couldn't believe it didn't rain today.

It is good knowing you are out there.

UNSOLVED INTERNET MYSTERY

I think that maybe my Atlas Bangle Bracelets were featured on the front page of Etsy? Maybe, eh, eh? There has been an abnormally overwhelming response to them these past few days. Please contact me if you have any leads or if you've solved this open case.

I'm getting to it.

THE CUT

Old news, I know, I know, BUT...
it's ok to post OLD news in a NEW blog, right?!

I feel like I need to document this here.

My Thesaurus Bangle Bracelets were featured in New York Magazine's Fashion Blog as one of The Cut's favorite Renegade fashion accessories! Only twenty-five *pieces* were selected out of over three hundred vendors!

You can check out all twenty-five here.

RENEGADE CRAFT FAIR BROOKLYN 2009

A few weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to be a vendor at the Renegade Craft Fair, one of the greatest diy craft fairs in New York City. I was surrounded by incredible art for two whole straight days. Here are some photos!

PREPARATION

Lots of rainy days.

Workspace.

Sleepy helpers.

Brian had the idea of photo documenting "The Dogs of Renegade", and this little guy was by far my favorite!

FINDING MY PLACE IN THE BLOGOSPHERE

My name is Allison and I am only semi-ok with all things computers. The thought of social networking sites and blogs still makes me slightly uncomfortable. I like kittens, ice cream and science-fiction. And I am working on typing with proper punctuation and capitalization because grammar is important to me.

I decided to tippy-toe out of my comfort zone because I want to share with you everything I can about my small (but huge-hearted!) company, So It’s Gray, and all the things it’s leading me to in this giant world, as well as other creative endeavors that sometimes take my reigns.

I really never thought in a million years I’d ever start a blog. So here goes nothing…!
